Facts

Wikidata (public domain, CC0) and Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0). Every spice page and country overview links to the article and the record it was written from.

Wording and attribution

EveryMasala does not copy text. Spice pages and country overviews take their facts from the Wikipedia article named at the foot of each page and are rewritten in EveryMasala's own words. A check compares each page with its source; any page that carries over more than a short phrase is rewritten before it is shown. Because the pages are adapted from Wikipedia, they credit the article and its contributors, link to the original, and are shared under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 licence.

Photos

All photos come from Wikimedia Commons. Only freely licensed images are used: public domain, CC0, CC BY and CC BY-SA. Each photo on a spice page is credited beside it with its author and licence and links to its page on Commons. Small pictures in lists, cards and strips are credited at the foot of the page they appear on, under "Photo credits on this page", with the author, the licence and a link to the source. Photos may be resized; no other changes are made. If a photo is yours and should not be here, write to us and it will be taken down.

Drawings

The colour piles, the thirteen drawn shapes (star, stick, seed, pod, pile, flower, root, leaf, ring, mortar, flame, crystal and thread), the heat meter, the blend rings and the step-by-step frames are drawn by EveryMasala's own code from what each page says. Where no free photo exists, a drawing stands in for it. They are diagrams, not pictures of a particular lot, and they are free to reuse with a link back. No AI image generator is used.

Good reading

The articles listed under "Good reading" on a spice page are ones its Wikipedia article cites, from publishers and institutions such as Britannica, the BBC, Kew, the Spice Board of India, the Smithsonian and the Food and Agriculture Organization. EveryMasala shows the headline and the publisher and links to the original; it does not copy the article.

Blends, the calendar, cities and concepts

Original text and drawings by the EveryMasala desk, written with AI assistance. The shares in a blend are an illustrative ratio. Festival dates are worked out by rule where one exists (fixed dates) and otherwise taken from published calendars; days that follow the moon or a local calendar are marked "about" and can shift by a day.

Traditional and medicinal use

Where a page describes what a spice is traditionally said to do, it reports the tradition, with its source, and does not endorse it. It is not medical advice.

Map

Country outlines are from Natural Earth (public domain). Cities, markets and growing areas are marked at the middle of the place.

The news wire shows only a headline and the outlet's name. Every link leads to the original publisher.
